Lula Ross ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Starks Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services - Clark Chapel - Dowagiac on Mar. 4, 2026.Lula V. Ross, 97, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of the place she loved most.Born on September 18, 1928, in Naylor, Missouri, Lula was the cherished daughter of George and Athia (Thompson) Litton. Her early years in Missouri helped shape the strength, resilience, and steady spirit that would define her life. In 1972, she made Michigan her home, where she built a life centered on hard work, faith, and family. For more than 40 years, Lula was a familiar and friendly face at the Wash Shed Coin Laundromat in Dowagiac. She worked there until 2018, retiring at the remarkable age of 90. Many customers became dear friends, and she took pride not only in her work but in the conversations and connections she made along the way. She was also well known throughout the Dowagiac area for selling Avon, always delivering products with a warm smile and often staying to chat a little while longer.More than anything, Lula was the heart of her family. She was the steady tree whose roots ran deep and whose branches sheltered everyone she loved. She kept her family connected, offering unwavering support, wise advice, and a listening ear. If someone needed help, comfort, or simply a place to belong, Lula was there. Her strength carried generations. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Lester (Eva) Ross, Ray Ross, Kenny (Linda) Ross, and Jay Ross; her brothers, Cecil "Buddy" Litton and Leonard Litton; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will continue to carry her love forward. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Roger Ross; brothers, Marvin Litton and Arthur Litton; sisters, Wilma O'Neil and Fay Putney; and former spouse, Earl Ross.A service to celebrate Lula's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 9, at Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, 405 Center St., Dowagiac.
