Lucy Maureen (Spence) Trierweiler, of Greenville, IA, passed away March 8, 2026 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home.
Lucy was born in Exeter, England on March 14, 1944, daughter of the late William Spence and Rosaleen Gribben Spence. She lived in Belfast, Ireland for the first three years of her life. After William was honorably discharged from the Army, Lucy’s family moved to Spencer, Iowa where she grew up and completed her education. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1962. She married Peter (Tony) William Trierweiler on August 12, 1963. They raised three boys, Brian, Clint, and Tony in Greenville. Lucy and Tony opened and managed a bar in Gillett Grove. After selling the bar, Lucy worked as a waitress for Alice’s Steakhouse in Sioux Rapids. Her husband Tony passed away in 1980 due to health issues. She also worked at Eagle’s Club in Spencer where she later retired.
Lucy met Robert Handy in 1991. They made their home in Greenville and later moved to Lost Island in 1993. Lucy loved her family and extended family through Robert. She enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She hosted many family reunions and kept in touch with her family in Ireland, Australia, and Canada. She was very proud of her Irish heritage. Lucy liked to go snowmobiling with family and was also a member of a bowling league where she earned several small trophies claiming that she was “The World’s Best Bowler”. Lucy also loved going on walks around the lake, going out on the pontoon, and watching her bird feeders for friendly visitors. She was an avid bird lover and had several birds throughout her life such as African Grey parrots, cockatiels, and parakeets.
Lucy is preceded in death by her husband Peter (Tony) William Trierweiler, her son Brian Kelly Trierweiler and grandson Dustin Trierweiler, her parents William and Rosaleen Spence, her brother Bill Spence, his wife Judy and son Russell, her niece Jamie Spence and nephew Michael Spence, her significant other Robert Handy, her brothers-in-law Paul and John Trierweiler, sister-in-law Mary and her husband Hal Brown.
Lucy is survived by two sons Clint (Cammy) Trierweiler and their three children Brent (Hannah) Trierweiler and their son Wyatt, Kristin (Brock) Aiello, and Pete Trierweiler, and son Tony Trierweiler (Becky Jessen), daughter-in-law Chris Trierweiler and her daughter Casey (Jacob Smith) Trierweiler, grandson Tyler Trierweiler and his children Jodah and Lauren, her brother Ed (Diane) Spence, her brothers and sisters-in-law Alice Trierweiler, Nancy Trierweiler, Mike (Linda) Trierweiler, extended family Mark (Robin) Glander and their children and grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews along with extended family and friends.
