Lucy Mae Gideon, 89, of Roby, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 1, 1937, in Springfield, Illinois, to Walter and Mary Cook, Lucy married Robert Eugene Gideon on October 15, 1955, at Edinburg Christian Church in Edinburg, Illinois. The couple shared a devoted marriage of 70 years. Lucy had a deep passion for cooking and was especially known for her baking. She lovingly prepared cakes and pies for family and friends and took great pride in creating wedding and birthday cakes for many of her loved ones. She was also an avid crocheter and knitter who enjoyed these hobbies throughout her life.
Lucy possessed a generous heart and a welcoming home. She would do anything for anyone and always made those around her feel comfortable and cared for. Above all, she cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding her greatest joy in her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, eleven siblings, her son Timothy Allen Gideon, and her grandson Colton Eugene Gideon. Lucy is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Gideon of Roby; her children, Dennis (Sue) Gideon of Springfield, Kathryn (Michael) Lebshier of Roby, and Christopher (Naome) Gideon of Roby; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Anna) Cook of Faribault, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members.
