April 4, 1933— March 8, 2026
Dawson, GA
Mrs. Lucy Bell Hicks-Harris was born on April 4, 1933, to Mattie Brown. Later, her mother married Joseph Hicks, who raised her as his own. She was educated in the Webster County School System.
Lucy welcomed her first son on October 30, 1949. In January 1951, she married Warren Harris, Sr., and together they had ten children. While raising her family, she worked as a cook at the Town and Tourist Restaurant for more than 25 years. A lifelong member of Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church, she remained faithful until her health declined. She found quiet pleasure in reading romance novels, though the Bible was always her favorite book.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Harris, Sr.; her parents; three sons, John Arthur Hicks, James Harris, and Warren Harris, Jr.; one daughter, Lois Harris; three grandchildren, Michael Thornton, Latasha Lawson, and Nicholas Daniels; one sister, Doris Brown; and one brother, Lonnie C. Hicks.
Mrs. Harris leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Janice Johnson (Dennis) of Hawesville, Kentucky, and Linda Fay Johnson (Harold) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her sons, Lonnie Harris (Brenda), Edward Harris, Curtis Harris (Kechanda), and Phillip Harris (Chevelle), all of Dawson, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Mertice Harris of Dawson, Georgia; her brothers-in-law, Mitchell Harris and John Shorter; her sisters-in-law, Bessie Harris, Barbara Bavelle, Carol Brewster, Josephine Moon, and Juliet Johnson; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
