LUCIAN HANSFORD (HANK) CALLOWAY JR.

Lucian Hansford (Hank) Calloway Jr., age 92, was born in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida on August 5,1933 to L.H. Calloway Sr. and Flora (Blanton) Calloway. He was a 5th generation Floridian on his Mothers side. Lucian's father was transferred to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1941 and became the freight agent for the Florida East Coast Railway. He attended Boynton Beach schools and was class President his senior year at Seacrest High School. Upon graduation In 1951, Lucian joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean conflict aboard the USS Oriskany DEVC-35. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in March of 1954. He then attended the Mary Karl Vocational School in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he studied Telegraphy, subsequently hired by the Florida East Coast Railroad in November of 1954. His father and uncle had been employed there since 1924 and a Railroad career was expected. Lucian rose to an upper management position in 1960 and began his many positions throughout the state of Florida including Ft Pierce, Miami, and West Palm Beach. He became the Trainmaster for Palm Beach County including the Sugarcane Trains in the Glades. The Railroad brought a young woman, Elizabeth Sargent, from the hills of Vermont in August of 1960 that would change the next 65 years of his life. They married on February 17, 1961 and embarked on a beautiful journey of love. On February 17, 2026 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was a proud member of the Boynton Masonic Lodge #236 and the Kiwanis Club.”Hank” was a true southern gentleman known for his kindness, generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was Faith, Family and Country first. He was ordained a Deacon in 1973 at Crossroads Baptist Church in West Palm Beach and later served in Southpoint Baptist Fellowship in Leesburg,Florida. Lucian loved Southern Gospel music, traveling about Florida, Georgia and the Carolina’s to hear live concerts. He enjoyed spending Summers and the Fall at his cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia, watching the wildlife and enjoying the fresh mountain air. He loved fishing, football (FSU), BBQ’s, family gatherings, church suppers, Princess Cruises and traveling the world, but always putting USA, Alaska and Hawaii first. He had many friends and always greeted everyone with a hug and smile, loved life and each day was a gift.

He is predeceased by his parents, his father, Lucian H. Calloway Sr. in 1963 and his mother, Flora (Blanton) Calloway in 2004; brother, Evan Blanton Calloway in 1980; his son, Captain Christopher H. Calloway (Ret.) PBSO in 2021.

Lucian is survived by his loving and devoted, wife, Elizabeth (Sargent) Calloway (Honey); two children, Kimberley Calloway Pankow (Jon) and Evan Scott Calloway (Lorena); sisters, Elaine Yarnell of York, South Carolina and Carol Martell of Ocala, Florida; sister-in-law, Barbara Schoeff of Ponte Vedra, Florida; grandchildren, Michael Calloway (Luisa,) Matthew Calloway (Jayme), Rachel Morson (Zachary,) Ashley Elizabeth Pankow, Kelvin Pankow (Sofia,) Chloe Pankow, Kevin Garcia, David Garcia and Caroline Scoggins; great grandchildren, Russell Scott Calloway, Raegan Jayde Calloway, Cataleya Calloway, Melissa Lynn Morson, Isaiah Christopher Morson, Agatha Pankow and Nami Pankow.

Lucian passed into the loving arms of his Savior at Select Specialty Hospital of Palm Beach on February 26, 2026 surrounded by family. He will be greatly missed by the family and friends that loved him.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 10-11 am and the Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home, 599 N.E. 15th Ave., Boynton Beach, Florida followed by Interment at the South Florida National Cemetery with Military Honors at 1 pm (Lane 3). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
