Lucas Dean Speidel
June 6, 1986— March 7, 2026
Bismarck, ND
Lucas Dean Speidel, 39, of Bismarck, passed away on March 7, 2026.
Born on June 6, 1986, to Jerry and Donna Speidel in Bismarck, North Dakota, Lucas grew up in south Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 2004. From a young age he embraced an active life, spending many happy years playing hockey while remaining gentle and easygoing at home. His kind nature was evident early on, as he never rose to his younger sister’s playful jabs, instead showing the patient and good-hearted spirit that would define him throughout his life.
Lucas spent many years at Huff Hills Ski Resort, where he worked as a manager and maintained the trolley. The resort was far more than a job to him; it was a place where his lifelong love of snowboarding and the outdoors became part of his daily world. He formed deep friendships there, especially with Jim and Pat, whom he affectionately called his “co-parts.” More recently he worked at Bismarck Sign Company, taking pride in pointing out the signs he had assembled and welded throughout the community he cherished.
A true thrill seeker, Lucas loved anything involving speed and adventure. He enjoyed motorcycles, roller coasters, tubing, skateboarding, four-wheelers, and snowboarding from an early age. He learned to ski at five and fearlessly took to the slopes on his own, a passion that remained with him always. He also found joy in fishing, golfing, and spending time outdoors. Annual trips with family and friends—whether snowboarding in Red Lodge or visiting Deadwood—were treasured traditions that brought him some of his happiest moments.
Lucas possessed a creative side as a talented artist who loved to draw. Above all, he loved people. He connected easily with others, made friends wherever he went, and was always ready to dance. Family was everything to him. He shared a special, playful bond with his godmother and aunt, Dar, often repeating his favorite phrase, “I need this Dar,” which became a cherished tradition between them. He was especially proud of his niece, nephews, and godchildren, and lived by a simple promise: if someone needed him, his answer was always, “I’ll be right there.” And he always showed up.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Jerry and Donna; his sister, Whitney (Noah) Fliginger; his nephews and niece, Roger, June, Roland (his godson), and Rocky; his girlfriend, Jasmine Harter; his grandmother, Wilma Speidel; his godchildren, Ava Sommerfield and Lennon Speidel; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as his Huff Hills family and his Jack’s Steakhouse family, who meant so much to him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Wilburt Speidel, and his maternal grandparents, Roger and Ann Meland.
Lucas will be remembered for his big heart, adventurous spirit, and the steadfast way he showed up for everyone he loved. His laughter, kindness, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
