Lieutenant (retired) Robert H. Kahn, age 95, star #2131 Illinois State Police, beloved husband of Marianna Kahn nee Wrzosek, loving son of the late Albert Kahn, his late dear mother Sylvia Kahn, dear brother of the late Richard Kahn (late Millie), sister-in-law Anna (Victor) Niziolek, fond niece of Agata (Christopher) Jurkiewicz MD, fond niece of Nicole (Pawel MD, PhD) Zymek, nephew Hubert (Marlena) Wrzosek, nephew Albert (Tracey) Kahn, niece Robin (Daniel) Thomas), niece Debby Jackson. LT Kahn passed away in his sleep peacefully at home with his wife at his side on March 7 2026. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave Norridge, IL 60706. Funeral services will begin on Monday at the funeral home at 9:00 am until the Chapel Service at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Maryhill Cemetery, Niles IL. Military ceremonial Honors burial to be executed by the Illinois State Police Honored Guard Unit. For more information, please call 708-456-8300.EMPLOYMENTILLINOIS STATE POLICE SERVICE:1962: Lieutenant (LT) Kahn started his career with the Department as an Inspector with the Illinois Division of Narcotic Control (IDNC), Illinois Department of Public Safety (IDPS).1970: Illinois Department of Public Safety (IDPS) transitioned into the Illinois Bureau of Investigation (IBI), Illinois Department of Law Enforcement (IDLE). LT Kahn was assigned to IBI as a special agent (S/A), Squad Supervisor.1977: IBI was reorganized as the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Illinois Department of the Law Enforcement. The DCI was the only criminal investigation unit under the IDLE.1985: IDLE by an act of legislation was reorganized as the Illinois Department of State Police consisting of the Division of Administration (DOA), Division of State Troopers (DST), Division of Internal Investigation (DII) and Division of Forensic Services (DFS). Subsequently the IDSP by an active legislation was reorganized as the Illinois State Police (ISP) and is now a full service state police agency consisting of seven divisions. LT Kahn was assigned to DST as a supervisor in the administrative unit and was instrumental in the reorganization of the ISP administrative services.1990: LT Kahn retired from Illinois State Police after 29 years of dedicated service.1992 LT Kahn returned to the ISP as a volunteer investigator to work on cases from a grant of the United States government National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.1999: LT Kahn was assigned to the ISP, DII as a contractual investigator. His mission was to complete background investigations for the ISP and occasion local law enforcement agencies as requested.2008: LT Kahn returned to ISP, DII, Background Investigation Unit working on background investigations of incoming ISP cadets.2010: LT Kahn was assigned to ISP, DII, Criminal Offender Program Mission. He conducted over 800 background investigations of Illinois nursing homes employees and patients with felony convictions for sex offenses, and other felonious criminal offenses.2013: LT Kahn finally retired from his ISP law enforcement career.UNITED STATES MILITARY AND U.S. GOVERNMENT SERVICE:1948: LT Kahn served in the United States Navy (USN), was assigned as a Master of Arms aboard the Cruiser USS Fargo.1949: LT Kahn was honorably discharged from the United States Navy.1951: LT Kahn reenlisted in the USN and was assigned to the Gunnery Officers Ordnance School in Washington DC.1953: LT Kahn received a second honorable discharge from the USN.1953: LT Kahn was employed by the United States Department of State, Foreign Service Division, Cryptographic Intelligence Unit and did tours of duty in Trieste, Italy and Washington DC.2006: LT Kahn was employed by the United States Office of Personnel Management, Federal Investigator Service as an investigator conducting investigations of United States Naval personnel assigned to US Navy Great Lake Naval Receiving Station.2007 LT Kahn completed his U.S. Government employment.CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT1959: LT Kahn was employed as an assistant manager with Pinkerton's National Detective Agency, Chicago, Il.LT Kahn during his ISP career was assigned to work covert and overt narcotic drug and other criminal investigations. LT Kahn was known as a tenacious criminal investigator and put hours of overtime on investigations which at the time received no compensation. Time was not a factor in LT Kahn's ISP career. He was known as one of the best criminal investigators in DCI. LT Kahn was also known for his report writing skills and was meticulous in detail in his reports. He was also an excellent witness in criminal court trials. LT Kahn was a "leader by example" and by his peers he was regarded as a "COPS COP".
