Beaumont, TX
Loyce Harbin Beaty, 96, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on March 18, 2026. Born on January 17, 1930, in Donna, Texas, she was the first child of Selma and John E. Harbin. When she was in the first grade, her family moved to Beaumont, where she later graduated from South Park High School, an accomplishment of which she was always proud.
She met the love of her life, Narlin B. Beaty, shortly before he joined the Navy. After his discharge, they married and settled in Groves, Texas, where they raised their three children: Narlin Beaty, Jr. (wife Susan) of Phoenix, Maryland; Marlyse Beaty Summer (husband Stephen) of Austin, Texas; and Yvette Beaty Payne of Montgomery, Texas. Following Narlin’s retirement from DuPont Sabine River Works, they returned to Beaumont and built their dream retirement home. After Hurricane Harvey, Loyce moved to Montgomery, Texas, where she continued to enjoy time with family and friends.
A dedicated piano teacher for many years in Groves and Beaumont, Loyce attended Lamar University and earned teaching certification from the St. Louis Institute of Music. She became the first registered Suzuki piano teacher in the area and remained an active member of the Port Arthur and Beaumont Music Teachers Associations. She also taught piano for five years at a Montessori school, finding great joy in guiding both young and older students to discover a lifelong love of music.
Loyce was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Narlin (Lonnie) Beaty, her parents, her sister Janice See of Brisbane, Australia, and her brother Daryl Harbin of Diamond Bar, California. She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren— Cody Payne of Montgomery, Texas; Narlin (Ben) Beaty (wife Eva) of Tallahassee, Florida; Matthew Barrett Beaty (wife Leigh) of Onley, Maryland; and Taylor Summer Ward (husband Kelly) of Rockland, Maine—seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and Terri Beaty of Tallahassee, Florida. She was never happier than when her entire family could be together, cherishing those moments and taking deep pride in each of them. She also found fulfillment through her involvement with Groves Eastern Star, where she and her husband served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron and where she played the organ for many years, as well as through her roles as a docent at the McFaddin-Ward House and as a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
