She was the first child of Earl and Ineta Smith and was affectionately known as Louise to her friends and family. Louise spent her childhood in Temple, Texas, where she was a lifelong member of Saint James United Methodist Church. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1943, and was currently acknowledged as Dunbar High Schools oldest living alumni.After completing high school, Louise attended Madam C.J. Walker Beauty College in Austin, Texas, where she majored in Cosmetology.In 1945, Louise married Jimmie Porter and in 1955 the couple moved to South 26th Street in Temple, Texas. In 1956, Louise opened Porter's Beauty Shop in her backyard. Her salon quickly became well known, and she was cherished by all her clients, many of whom remained loyal to her for years.Louise was also an active member of the Progressive Social Club, where she served as treasurer.Louise Smith Porter departed this life on March 9, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ineta Smith; her husband, Jimmie Porter; her brothers, Charles Smith, Earl Smith Jr., John Edward Smith, Richard Smith, Tommy Joe Smith, and Murray Smith; and her sister, Lula Jewel Smith Flowers.She is survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
