Jeanette Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Following the chapel service burial will take place in Oak Bowery Baptist Church Cemetery in Ohatchee.Mrs. Matthews passed away on March 17, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Merrell Smith and Sonny Matthews; brothers, Jimmy Lee Jennings (Carol), Lenois Jennings (Becky), Bobby Jennings (Ailen), and Larry Jennings; sister, Joyce Nunnally; and her parents, Robert Jennings and Pauline Greenwood Jennings.She is survived by her children, Big John Smith and Gayla Creed; grandchildren, Robert Creed, Amanda Myers (Tony), Chris Creed (Terri), and Little John Smith (Angie); great grandchildren, Kesleigh Lucas (Daniel), Chloe Molett (Dylan), Emma Creed (Ben), Grey Smith, Aiden Creed, Noah Creed, Alton Creed, Adelyn Creed, Thomas Reynolds, Brayden Cunningham, Gage Matthews, Eric Matthews; great great grandchildren, Hunter Lucas, Colt Lucas, Harris Molett, Layla Molett, Lily Molett, Hazel Hardy; sisters in law, Hazel Hill and Phyllis Jennings; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Terrie Hickman.Pallbearers will be her grandsons.Mrs. Matthews was born on January 6,1931 in Anniston, Alabama. She worked as a warehouse worker at Super Value. She was a member of Halls Chapel Congregational Holiness Church and loved her church and the Lord.
