Louise E. McGovern

Louise E. McGovern

December 19, 1935 March 10, 2026

Cortlandt Manor, NY

Louise Eleanor (Flemming) McGovern passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on December 19, 1935, in the Borough of Brooklyn, New York City, to Henry August and Julia (Wallace) Flemming, she graduated from the Kings County Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in June 1956. She devoted more than three decades to her profession, serving as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Peekskill Community Hospital from 1968 until her retirement in 1999.

In 1964 she married Patrick J. McGovern, and together they shared 46 years of marriage until his passing in 2010. Louise found great joy in traveling with family and friends to Alaska, Rhode Island, Florida, and Maine, as well as occasional outings to casinos. She was an avid crossword puzzler and faithful viewer of Jeopardy, and she was cherished for her sharp, dry wit that remained with her until the end.

She is survived by her children Patrick (Alice) McGovern and grandchildren Quinn, Brendan, and Gregory; Mary (Douglas) Andress and grandchildren Jeremy (River), Trevor (Emili), Gemma-Rose (Carlos) Cuacuas, Colton, and Ash, along with great-grandchildren Indie, Gavin, Santana, Maverick, and Archer; Michael (Michele) McGovern and grandchildren Jacob (Andrea) Pidgeon and Emily Pidgeon; and Kevin (Denise) McGovern and grandchildren Stella, William, and James. In her later years, Louise was lovingly cared for in her Cortlandt Manor, New York home by her granddaughter Gemma and husband Carlos, where she continued her gentle habit of sharing leftovers with her grandpuppy Larry.
