Preserve forever →LOUIS JACOB "JAY" REEG III
May 25, 1953— March 13, 2026
Scituate, MA
Louis Jacob Reeg III, known to all as Jay, passed away peacefully at his home in Scituate on March 13, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A man who lived life entirely on his own terms, Jay leaves behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity, artistic passion, and steadfast love for his family.
He was the beloved husband of Janice Colombi and the proud and devoted father of Madeleine (Maddie). Born to Louis Jacob and Paula Reeg, he is survived by his sisters, Paula Reeg McGuffin (Donnie) of Tomball, Texas, and Pamela Reeg Doyle (John) of San Antonio, Texas, along with six nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
To the art world, Jay was a leading figure in preservation and cultural history. A prominent collector and recognized authority on The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol, he served on the Board of Directors of The Andy Warhol Museum from 2002 to 2014. His contributions extended well beyond financial support; he was a vital voice in the discourse on 1960s counterculture, notably authoring the tribute to Lou Reed for the Warhol archives in 2013. He was also an active presence in the Boston arts scene and a significant donor to the Museum of Fine Arts, helping to strengthen its contemporary and experimental collections.
Beyond his work in the technology sector, Jay’s private life was anchored by a profound love of books and the power of sound. He curated an extensive personal library and a meticulous music collection that served as both sanctuary and constant inspiration. His sharp mind and dedication to archival preservation ensured that the counterculture he cherished would be protected for future generations.
