Louis Bruns ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Seydler-Hill Funeral Home - Gonzales on Mar. 17, 2026.Louis Henry Bruns, 92, of Luling, formerly of Gonzales, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2026.Louis Henry was born December 10, 1933 in Gonzales County to Edwin and Lola Boysen Bruns. He married the love of his life, Ruth Darlene Nelson, on May 7, 1960, and together they were blessed with 60 years of marriage.Louis Henry grew up on a farm with his brother, Harold Bruns in the midst of the Great Depression. Each member of the family contributed to the work on the farm. Louis Henry worked tirelessly caring for chickens and turkeys and milking cows twice a day. The family raised corn and cotton, and Louis Henry plowed the fields behind a team of mules. He picked corn and cotton by hand alongside his brother and parents, and the strong work ethic he developed during those early years remained with him throughout his life.He attended Gonzales High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. While in high school, Louis Henry played the trumpet in the marching band and was also a member of a singing group known as "4 Hits and a Miss," which performed around the Gonzales area.In 1954, Louis Henry volunteered for service in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss and celebrated his 21st birthday while serving in the Army. During the Korean War, he was assigned to a MASH unit located near the 38th parallel. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Texas Lutheran College on the GI Bill, where he continued his love for music by playing the trumpet in the TLC Band.Louis Henry worked for Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Gonzales and also delivered bread for Butter Krust Bakery. After graduating from Texas Lutheran College, he began working for the Texas Highway Department, where he quickly became a valued employee, known for preparing job estimates and calculating concrete volumes. After a long career with the highway department, he later worked for Central Concrete in Luling and was highly regarded for his remarkable ability to calculate cement slurries long before the days of calculators or computers.Louis Henry was a longtime supporter of the Luling Stock Show and attended many auctions and purchased numerous animal projects from local FFA and 4H members through the years. He was a devoted supporter of the stock show and believed that the youth were an integral part of the community and that acknowledging their work and achievements would help them to have a successful future.Louis Henry loved music and had a beautiful voice. He sang in the church choir and enjoyed singing karaoke at the American Legion. He was also a wonderful dancer, and many evenings he rarely had the chance to sit down once the music started because the ladies loved dancing with him. He truly enjoyed dancing, and his favorite dance partner was Dot Harrison. The two spent many Saturday nights at the Legion Hall visiting with friends and dancing until the last song was played. That was Louis Henry in a nutshell-whenever he committed to something, he did it well and stayed with it until the very last song was played.Louis Henry Bruns is survived by his nephew, Tommy Bruns and wife Theresa; great-nephews, Chris Bruns and wife Carrie and Cody Bruns; great-great-nephews, Thomas and Dylan Bruns; and his devoted friend and dancing partner, Dorothy Harrison, along with her children, who have been like a second family to Louis Henry for many years, doing all the things a loving family would do with an abundance of love and care. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Darlene Bruns; his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Billie Jean Bruns. The Bruns family would like to acknowledge Tracey Watson and Dot Harrison for their devotion and all the many hours caring for, visiting with and loving Louis Henry during the past year.
