Louis Aliotta ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 17, 2026.My name is Louis Aliotta, though many people came to know me as "The Artful Framer." I passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at the age of 76. I was born on September 13, 1949, the fourth and youngest child of the late Luigi Aliotta and Catherine "Kay" Aliotta.I graduated from Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie and soon after served four years in the United States Navy, where I worked as a photographer. That experience sparked what would become my lifelong passion for photography and art. I spent many years photographing the Hudson Valley, always drawn to its farms, fields, mountains, and old barns. One of my favorite views was Sleight Farm behind my home, where the cows and horses made the landscape feel timeless. Some of my most meaningful photographs were taken at my nieces' and nephews' weddings and while capturing their high school senior portraits.Photography and framing became my life's work. I began my career at John Lane Studios and Gallery in Poughkeepsie, where I learned the art of framing. I later opened my own shop, The Frame Center, which I proudly operated in Poughkeepsie for more than 30 years. In the early 1990s I discovered another passion: sailing. Being out on the Hudson River brought me a peace that is hard to describe. Over the years I owned several sailboats and spent many unforgettable days on the water. My photography often reflected that love, especially the Hudson River lighthouses, which became a favorite subject of mine. Later in life my love of sailing brought me south to Calabash, North Carolina, where I continued my work at Sunset River Marketplace and Gallery, framing artwork and sharing my photography with the community. I was fortunate to receive several awards for my photography over the years, but what meant the most to me were the friendships I made along the way.I was a 70s kid through and through. I loved music, the outdoors, my Italian family, and the many friends who were part of my life. The people of Calabash welcomed me warmly, and the friendships I built there meant the world to me. I was predeceased by my sister Joanne Drivas and my brother-in-law Michael Drivas. I leave behind my loving family: my sister Jackie and her husband Bob McCord, their children Susan and her husband Chris Palmer, and Bobby McCord and his wife Cindy; my nieces Lenore Incorvaia and her husband Mark Surico, Cathy, Annmarie and her husband Paul Iorio, and Jennifer and her husband Chris Williams; my nephews Michael Drivas, Manny Drivas and his wife Susan Drivas, and the late Dr. Guy Aliotta and his wife Jackie Aliotta.I was also blessed to have Michael Vander Werf and his wife Kristy in my life. I helped raise Michael when he was young and always considered him part of my family. As a photographer I always believed in the rule of thirds. Life, like a photograph, finds its beauty when things are placed in the right balance. When I look back on everything, I can honestly say this: It was a wonderful life that I lived. Now I am reunited with my loving family in heaven, and I send my blessings to all of you.To view these details online or to offer words of comfort through the online guest book, visit www.burroughsfh.com.Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremation Service (843.651.1440) of Murrells Inlet is assisting the family with arrangements. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
