Lorraine Roper, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on March 1, 2026. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 24, 1939, to Ceasar and Minnie McGriff and was the oldest of five children.
After graduating from Prospect Heights High School, Lorraine attended NYC Community College and became a lab technologist. She went on to hold many different positions throughout her life, including hairdresser, barber, tailor, New York City cab driver, and tax preparer. She continued working as a tax preparer for more than 60 years. Lorraine had a deep love for her family, travel, fine dining, writing books, and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Later in life she moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where she became a longtime member of Refuge in Kentucky Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ceasar and Minnie McGriff; brothers Russell, Stanley, and Tyrone McGriff; her husband William Roper; Claude Key Sr.; her children Miller Bradley, Claude Key Jr., Cassandra Key, Ivana Lise Roper, and Andrew Cousar-Roper; and her grandson Daniel Key Jr.
Lorraine is survived by her children Louise Logan, Lorriellen Alleyne, Linda (Heron) Stevens, Shannon Key, Daniel Key, Gregory Cousar-Roper, and Desean Roper; her grandchildren Christina Bradley, Elizabeth Logan, Shanda (Vincent) Hobbs, Kaseem Poarch, Shannon Key, Kashawn Key, Ernest Joslin, Damon Key, Malaysia Boyd-Key, Ilesa Key, Gregory Cousar-Roper Jr., Samaria Sarver-Key, Claude Key, Erin Key, Makyah Taylor, Cassandra Key, Davin, Aniyah, Ariana, and Zionna Key; her nieces Adrianne and Shanequa McGriff; great-grandchildren Kamya and Khalil Hobbs, Aiden, Ilyane, Ariyah, and Na’Ziyah; and a host of other family members and friends.
