October 12, 1960— March 12, 2026
Marshville, NY
Lorie Lynn Bowerman passed peacefully at the age of 65 with her family at her bedside at her home in Marshville, New York, on the morning of March 12, 2026.
Born on October 12, 1960, in Little Falls, New York, Lorie was the daughter of Wanda Marie (Morse) Barton and John Harry Barton. She graduated from St. Johnsville Central Schools and earned a certificate in cosmetology through BOCES. She continued her education at FMCC, receiving a certificate as a Physical Therapist Aide in 1993 and completing an internship in the Physical Therapy Program at Little Falls Hospital. In 2000, she earned an A.A.S. degree in Early Education from FMCC.
Lorie married James (Jim) Bowerman on September 10, 1983. Together they built their dream home on land purchased from Jim’s father in the Canajoharie area, where she took great pride in the home they designed. They raised two daughters, Kari Lynn and Kelsey Marie, of whom she was extremely proud. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren.
Throughout her career, Lorie worked in many roles, but she found her greatest joy working with children in preschool settings. Her favorite positions included teaching in the Head Start Program in Schenectady, serving as an after-school program teacher assistant, and teaching at Happy Clown Nursery School in Fort Plain. She also spent many years as direct support staff and assistant residential manager for Liberty Enterprises and as residential support staff for the Mental Health Associations of Johnstown and Amsterdam.
Lorie collected apple items, snowmen, and bears, many of which she created herself during years of ceramics classes. In her later years, she found deep happiness in short family visits, shared meals, and time with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and two nephews, Damien Barton and Chad Nichols. Lorie is survived by her husband, James H. Bowerman; her daughters, Kari Lynn Rouse (Brett) and Kelsey Marie Masterson (Barry); and her grandchildren, Isabella Brooke Rouse, Cullen James Masterson, and Camden Hayes Masterson. She is also survived by her seven siblings—David Barton (Lori), Melissa Barton, John Barton (Evelyn), Dawn Colegrove (Randy), Mark Barton (Terri), Tina Stewart, and Heidi Nichols (Chuck Dygert)—along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
