Lori Brown
Rainy Lake, MN
LORI BROWN Lori passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 6th, 2026 after a long battle with brain cancer. Born Lori Lynn Van Schoiack in Willmar, MN on May 18th, 1961 to Larry and Delores (Smith) Van Schoiack who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Jim Brown, sons Calvin (Stephanie) Turban and Curtis Turban, grandsons Van, Max and Leo Turban, siblings Harmony (Larry) Lennox, June (Pat) Fulton, Holly Holler, Tom Van Schoiack, and Stacy (Kevin) Grover, aunts Sharon Van Schoiack and Lori Sangreux, uncle Charles Smith, nieces Valerie Lennox, Jessica Jagoe, Rainy Allerson, Madison Holler, Tessa Alleman, Ava Grover, great-nieces Olivia Jagoe, Rylee Jagoe, Larkin Allerson, and great-nephew Kit Allerson. Lori was very grateful for a rewarding and fortunate life. She loved her family and friends with a joy so powerful you could almost see it surrounding her. Never was this more present than when she was creating playful outdoor adventures with her grandsons. Her love for them was truly boundless. Lori was an avid reader, thinker and a true Rainy Lake girl. She was proficient in boating, swimming, skiing, fishing, drift wood hunting, duck hunting, crafting, and having a damn good time. She instilled reverence for the Rainy Lake area onto her children and grandchildren with her adventurous spirit. Whether as a young girl keeping pace with the neighborhood boys of Ranier, or as a mother of two going back to school and becoming a registered nurse, Lori showed determination and perseverance in many ways. Lori was proud of the career she achieved and always thankful for the family, friends and teachers who helped her along the way. She spent the better part of her working career as a surgical nurse at Rainy Lake Medical Center. The bonds of friendship and respect for her colleagues at RLMC were strong and she thought fondly of them. Like most nurses, Lori could be tough as nails or sweet as honey whenever it called for it. To her closest friends the "Luv Luvs" she was known as "Pine Marten". Small in stature, beautiful, intelligent, curious, ferocious, fearless, and independent. She was all of that and more. She will be forever missed and remembered. Lori's wish was for a simple gathering of family and friends at her and Jimmy's home, later date to be determined.
