Loretta Y. "Johnson" Martin

May 17, 1935 March 13, 2026

Cape Vincent, NY

Loretta Yvonne Johnson Martin, 90, of Cape Vincent, passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2026, surrounded by the loving care of her family.

Born on May 17, 1935, in New York Mills, New York, to Lawrence and Blanche Johnson, Loretta graduated from St. Francis de Sales School in Utica. On February 23, 1957, she married Robert F. Martin. The couple lived on Hayes Road in Marcy until 1969, when they moved to Cape Vincent and owned and operated Martin’s Marina for many years with their six children. Loretta and Bob shared a loving life together until his passing in 2008.

An accomplished quilter and knitter, Loretta created beautiful quilts that remain cherished treasures for her family and friends. Her talent and generosity extended far beyond her home, as she donated many quilts to charities, touching the lives of countless strangers. She often spoke with fondness of the lasting friendships she formed through her quilting and knitting circles.

Loretta was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Karen (David) Martin, Michael (Cynthia) Martin, Mary Lou Cornish, Susan (Timothy) Huff, Stephen “Beaver” Martin, and Lori McKenna, as well as ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Martin, and sons-in-law Mitchell Cornish and Patrick McKenna. The family extends deep gratitude to Deneen Lilly for her six years of devoted care that allowed Loretta to remain independent in her home.
