Frankford, DE
Lorah Franklin Hickman, 96, of Frankford, Delaware, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, Delaware. Born on January 2, 1930, in Berlin, Maryland, to Alice and Franklin Hickman, he grew up as an only child and carried a quiet self-reliance throughout his life. He graduated from Buckingham High School before serving honorably in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii and played baseball, a pursuit that reflected both his character and his love of the game.
In 1953, Lorah married the love of his life, Delthia Townsend. Their marriage was marked by steadiness, adventure, and deep devotion. Together they raised their only daughter, Teresa, and shared many happy years filled with golf, travel, and the warmth of family and friends. Their faith remained the steady foundation of their life, as longtime devoted members of Saint George's Methodist Church. Lorah found great joy in the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing, beekeeping, and tending his garden. He dedicated his career to public service with the Delaware State Highway Department, helping to build and maintain the roads of the state he called home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Franklin Hickman, and his beloved wife, Delthia. He is survived by his daughter, Tess Doyle, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ragen Benavides (Luis), Rhodes Benavides, Rylie Pohl (Charlie), and Liliana Pohl. A private ceremony was held for close family.
