Lois McFarland Moore, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born on April 22, 1933, in Laurel County, Kentucky, to the late Alex and Zella Hopkins, Lois spent 25 years working at the Mt. Vernon Developmental Center. She also operated kettle corn and lemonade stands for Woolson’s Concessions, where she formed many lasting friendships.
She found joy in bowling and occasional trips to the casino. Above all, Lois cherished her family. She was known for her steadfast support of others and for her spirited, feisty nature when the moment called for it.
She is survived by her sons, John (Brenda) McFarland of London, Kentucky, James McFarland of Lexington, Kentucky, Jeff Moore of Mount Vernon, and Terry Moore of Danville; grandchildren Todd (Andrea) McFarland, Leah (Chez) Marks, James McFarland Jr., Rosa Hicks, Casandra Snyder, Keyara (J.P.) Murphy, Adam (Cori) Moore, and Emily (Austin) Priest; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings.
