Lois Lu Killebrew
August 4, 1935— March 12, 2026
Tipton, OK
Lois Lu Killebrew, age 90, of Tipton, Oklahoma, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma.
Born on August 4, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas, to Earl and Lois (Roberts) Lomax, Lois grew up in Sonora, Texas, where her father owned and operated a grocery store. An adventurous child, she spent summers with her grandparents in the country, enjoying mountain climbing, exploring, fishing, swimming, and riding her horse, Punkin. As she grew older, her love for music flourished; she played flute and piccolo in her high school band and later attended Abilene Christian College, where she majored in music and performed in the college band and orchestra.
At the end of her freshman year, Lois met Sam Killebrew. Their friendship grew into a deep courtship, leading to their engagement on December 25, 1954, and marriage on June 3, 1955, in Abilene, Texas. Together they raised two daughters, Susan Kay and Mary Jane, though Mary Jane passed away at the age of three. After six years in Abilene, the family moved to Tipton, Oklahoma, where they purchased the Hubble Grocery, opening on April 1, 1961. Lois devoted herself to building a successful business alongside Sam until they sold it in 1991. In retirement, she and Sam enjoyed hosting bus trips, while Lois remained passionate about the outdoors and camping. She cherished gathering with friends each afternoon for coffee and was a longtime member of the Tipton Church of Christ.
Lois is survived by her husband, Sam Killebrew; her daughter, Susan Kay Haynie of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; grandson Brandon Haynie and his wife Rebekah of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and their children Sutton Jo and Deacon; and granddaughter Brooke Lemmons and her husband Jonathan of Edmond, Oklahoma, and their children Callan, Tatum, and Maisie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lois Lomax; her daughter, Mary Jane Killebrew; and her son-in-law, Barry Haynie.
