Moorhead, MN
Lois Althea Kicker passed away on March 11, 2026. She was deeply loved and is greatly missed by her family and friends. Throughout her life, Lois showed genuine kindness and reflected Christ’s love to everyone around her.
Born on April 14, 1935, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Emil and Ada (Lymburner) Johnson, Lois attended a one-room school before graduating from high school in Crookston. She was a gifted musician who sang solos in church, performed with choirs, and played piano, organ, and accordion. She graduated from Moorhead State College, where she played the double bass, an instrument later taken up by her great-grandson Josiah. She taught grade school in both Fargo and Moorhead.
Lois was an accomplished artist who painted pictures and created cakes that looked like works of art. A master seamstress, she sewed wedding dresses and became a dedicated quilter at Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake, where she was a longtime member. She made custom quilts for each of her grandchildren upon their graduation. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with children, grandchildren, and friends, and found great pleasure in entertaining family and friends at her home on Leek/Trowbridge Lake. An avid traveler, Lois visited most of the United States, including Alaska, as well as many countries in Europe and Africa.
Lois and Ronald Walker were married on June 6, 1954, and together they had four children: Pamela (Jon) Johnson, Debra Walker, John (Deb Sonnenberg) Walker, and Ivan Walker. On April 30, 1988, she married Jerome Kicker, and his daughters Valerie (Steve) Larson, LaVonne (Ed) Nordgulen, Cindy (Randy) Beckett, and Elana (Rahn) Bergee became part of her family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Dudley; many nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and Jerry’s fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four siblings, her husbands Ron and Jerry, and her stepdaughter Valerie.
