Lloyd Sumner ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Logan Funeral Home & Chapel - Ellijay on Mar. 16, 2026.Mr. Lloyd Wilson Sumner, age 90, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 15, 2026.Mr. Sumner was born on January 25, 1936, in Dalton, Georgia, to the late William Philip Sumner and Reba Anderson Sumner. He was a graduate of Ellijay High School, Class of 1955, where he played football. Lloyd was a lifelong farmer, raising his first milk cows at the age of 12, a passion he continued throughout his life. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church.Lloyd was a founding member of Appalachian Cattleman's Association, a member of the Gilmer Farm Bureau since 1962 and a life member of FFA. He began driving a milk truck in 1967 and continued until 1974, when he sold his truck to Frank Elliott. He retired for a year, then began raising chickens for Gold Kist in 1975 and continued this for 30 years. He became a Georgia Tech Football fan in the 1950's Bobby Dodd Era and loved to watch football, Nascar, and Golf.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Greg Sumner; sister, Willena Pruitt; and brothers, W.C. Sumner, Harold Sumner, and James Sumner.Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Glenda Sumner of Jasper, Georgia, and Alan and May Sumner of Titusville, Florida; grandchildren, Dustin and Ashley Sumner; great-grandchildren, Oakley and Lakelyn Sumnersister-in-law, Mary Ruth Sumner of Gate City, VA, beloved nieces and nephews, and special friends, Lisa Bradley and Kelley Burgess.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Davenport, Rev. Brian Clayton, and Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Special music will be provided by the Banks family and the New Hope Baptist Church Choir.Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Tommy James, Carlton James, Randall Ponder, Edward Casey, Buddy Anderson, Evan Davenport, Jonathan Gibson, and Nathan Silvers.The family will receive friends Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Logan Funeral Home.The family is accepting food and flowers, or donations may be made to the Gilmer County FFA in memory of Lloyd.Logan Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
