December 2, 1938— March 6, 2026
Knox, IN
Lloyd E. Shirley, a private man who found his greatest joy in the quiet rhythms of country life, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Hickory Creek Healthcare in Winamac. He was 87 years old.
Born on December 2, 1938, in Decatur, Alabama, to the late Jewell F. Shirley and Maud E. “Estelle” (Williams) Payne, Lloyd made his home in the Knox area. A United States Army veteran, he worked for many years as a machinist at McGill Manufacturing in Valparaiso before retiring. His true passion, however, was his farm. He spent his entire adult life tending the land, working the fields, savoring the quiet beauty of nature, and finding peace while fishing.
He shared a devoted marriage with the love of his life, Pearl A. (Willis) Shirley, who preceded him in death. Lloyd is survived by his nieces and nephews, who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pearl, his sister Betty Byrd, and his brother William Payne.
Lloyd will be remembered as a quiet, hardworking man who valued his independence, his land, and the simple beauty of the natural world.
