Kimball, MN
Lloyd Newman, age 84, of Kimball, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born on June 28, 1941, in South Haven to Walter and Jennie (Hogate) Newman, Lloyd graduated from Kimball High School in 1959. He soon enlisted in the US Army, serving two years in Germany with the 24th Engineer Battalion as a heavy equipment mechanic. During a leave from duty, he married Carol Van Nurden on December 30, 1959, in Iowa.
After his honorable discharge, Lloyd worked as a mechanic for Ziegler Inc. and later Bauerly Bros. Construction. From 1978 to 1993, he served as an instructor in the Heavy Truck and Diesel department at St. Cloud Technical College. In retirement, he drove a Peterbilt for JD Donovan Company and found great joy in collecting and restoring vintage Farmall tractors. A member of the Valley Tractor Club of Eden Valley and the Kimball Historical Society, he was also a longtime member of the Kimball American Legion Post 261, where he proudly served with the color guard.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Kimball; his children, Thomas (Sasha) of New Munich and Lori (partner David Nienaber) of Kimball; grandchildren Parker Boxell (Ashley Hinnenkamp), Colten Wolbeck (Serena Williams), Caspian Newman, Carter Groinus, and Maddy Groinus; siblings Gene (Theresa), Lorraine Rose, and Bill (Brenda); sister-in-law Joyce; and many cherished family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Theodore, and his brother-in-law Donald Rose.
