January 7, 1936— March 7, 2026
Dallas, TX
Lizzie Lee Hatter Glover Cook was born on January 7, 1936, in Haynesville, Louisiana, to Columbus Hatter and Estella Cheatam. The first of five children, she began her education at Shiloh Baptist Church in Gordon, Louisiana. After her mother’s death when she was ten, her father moved the family to Emerson, Arkansas, where she graduated from McMittress High School in 1954.
In 1956, Lizzie married Thurman Glover. Together they had three children: Annette Glover, Bobby Glover, and Pamela Glover. She later adopted Richard Lowe as her godson. Following Thurman’s death, she married James Cook in 1987. A woman of deep faith, she accepted Christ at an early age at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Emerson and later became a longtime member of Bon Air Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, where she sang in the choir and served as president of the Golden Agers. In 1982, she was voted Miss Bon Air.
Lizzie enjoyed a long career in retail, beginning in 1967 as a salesclerk with Zales Corporation and later working more than thirty years at Levine’s Department Store. She had a lifelong love of travel, learning, and helping others. She volunteered at Clinton P. Russell Elementary School, participated regularly with the Salvation Army, and was known for her curiosity and desire to share knowledge gained from books, conversation, and everyday life. Above all, she cherished her family and her faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Cook and her eldest daughter Annette Fisher. Lizzie is survived by her brothers Jerry Hatter Sr. and Dennis Hatter, her sisters Gloria Ford and Diane Robinson, her sons Bobby Glover and Richard Lowe, her daughter Pam Dominguez, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
