Lionel Leigh Schulz Obituary February 26, 2026 - Lone Star Cremation

Lionel Leigh Schulz was born in Omaha, Nebraska and lived there as a child. He was christened on the day of his birth and was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Beemer, Nebraska. As a child, his family relocated to Dallas, Texas where they lived in the area where Baylor Hospital buildings are now located and in a home on Trammel Dr. He graduated from Crosier Tech, where he was taught his craft. He was a veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Army.Lionel worked as a detailing draftsman for Moser Steel, Continental Steel, and was self-employed for a time.He was a 50+ year member of SPJST Lodge #85 and pitched fast pitch softball for many years. Well into his 50's. There were many no-hitters.Lionel was a member of the Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society for more than 20 years and served as President for many years.He was a loyal Texas Rangers fan, and a season ticket holder for more than 20 years and avid watcher of their ball games on TV since the team's inception.He was a masterful gardener and longtime member of the Dallas Garden Club. He served as president for several years. He always had a garden. His specialty was tomatoes. He would grow tomato plants from seeds and share plants and tomatoes generously with his family and friends.An avid outdoors man, he loved fly-fishing, hunting and just being outside. There were many trips to Colorado with family and friends to fish and enjoy nature. He and his late dear friend Joe Meier made their own fly-fishing flies for many years. He enjoyed hunting with his son and friends. He was always a patient teacher.Lionel was of very strong character and always a steady force for his family and friends. He was always eager to help. He would try to solve problems and offer help. He never slowed down. He was still climbing on the roof of his home to make repairs in the early 80's.He was just a good man, and we were blessed to have him in our lives.Lionel is survived by his wife, Jill, of just short of eight years. He is also survived by his son Michael Schulz, wife Lisa and their children Nathan, wife Janell, and great grandson Levi, and son Aaron; stepson, Mark Bartos and his children Alexander, wife Holly, Luke and Francesca; daughter-in-law Betty Bartos, her daughter Jessica Good, husband Brian and their sons Austin and Coen. Many cousins and other family members and dear friends.Lionel was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Agatha Schultz, an infant sister, Daughter Schulz and infant brother Herman, his wife of 57 years Ida Armbruster Schulz, daughter Sandra Schulz, stepson Paul Bartos, his son Justin Bartos.A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Paul Church, 6464 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas, TX 75214. Committal service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Beemer, Nebraska is planned for April 11, 2026. Reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers Memorial Contribution may be made to The Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society or a charity of your choice.
