Linda Maynard Gurney
May 28, 1943— March 4, 2026
Lehi, UT
Linda Maynard Gurney, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at her home in Lehi, Utah, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 28, 1943, in Murray, Utah, to Theodore and Sarah Maynard, she was the youngest of eleven children and grew up in a modest home in South Jordan. Her childhood was filled with outdoor play, roller skating, swimming at Saratoga, and warm summer evenings spent on the front lawn listening to her brothers and brothers-in-law play guitars and sing. She cherished her parents and siblings and carried fond memories of those early years throughout her life.
Linda married Kenneth Earl Gurney on May 16, 1960, and the couple was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 18, 1966. Together they raised six children, creating a lifetime of happy memories. They worked hard on projects around the home, loved the outdoors, and spent many summers camping and fishing in the canyon as well as taking family road trips. They lived most of their married life in Lehi and shared 52 years together before Ken’s passing in 2012.
A devoted homemaker who also worked outside the home to support her family, Linda was known for her tireless work ethic, immaculate housekeeping, and generous service to others. She was a wonderful cook and baker, filling her home with the aroma of fresh bread, homemade treats, and candies. Her many interests included crocheting, painting, gardening, canning fruits and jams, working puzzles, and dancing whenever the opportunity arose. She loved celebrations and gathering with family and friends.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Linda served in many ward callings and especially enjoyed baking bread for the sacrament later in life. She found great joy in temple service and loved God, the Savior, and her family with all her heart. In her final months, she was surrounded by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear friends who cared for her at home and prepared her favorite meals. She is remembered for her example of hard work, faith, strength, and courage.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Earl Gurney, sons Kenneth Jared Gurney and Jeremy Brent Gurney, grandson Cory Gurney, her parents, and nine siblings. She is survived by her children Lynnette (Brian) Bennion, Sherri (Jay) Barney, Shawn (Jan) Gurney, and Wendy (Josh) Bushman, her brother Reed Maynard, and many extended family members who will always cherish her memory.
