Johnston City, IL

Linda Lou Reed, 76, of Johnston City, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

Born on April 30, 1949, in Christopher to John Raymond and Katherine (Mabry) Sparks, Linda graduated from Carterville High School in 1967. She attended beauty school in Paducah, Kentucky, earning her cosmetology license, which she maintained in Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana. She devoted her career to working as a beautician, eventually operating a shop from her home where she formed lasting friendships with her loyal clients.

On November 4, 1978, she married the love of her life, Ormond Norris “Red” Reed, at the Friendly Church of God in Johnston City. They shared 45 years together before his passing on November 5, 2023. A woman of deep faith, Linda loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Whiteash Free Will Baptist Church. She was also a former member of the Ladies Eastern Star. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed coloring, working word searches, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Above all, she was remembered for her kind heart and gentle spirit. A loving Christian woman, she was always ready to listen and offer encouragement, and she made sure her family and friends knew how deeply she cared, often telling them she “loved them the most.”

Linda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Katlin Reed of Johnston City; her grandchildren, Bradyn, Bryson, Piper Reed, Penelope Jones, Josh Reed, Jacob Reed, Jonathan Castillo, Spencer Joe Reed, Shonda Hoyle, Brieanna Hoyle, Shaun Hanley, Jennifer Hertich, Julie Neal, and John Sullivan; her sister, Doris Ann (Michael) Kiesling; brother-in-law, David Hock; and former daughter-in-law, Nicole Reed. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her twin sister Brenda Sue, her sister Sharon Ray Hock, and her brother Michael Dean Sparks.
