Linda Fields Hughes Moffitt, 74, of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 11, 1951, in Farmville, North Carolina, to Joseph Denver Hughes and Hazel Elizabeth Hughes, Linda carried a compassionate spirit from an early age that shaped her entire life. She devoted her career to helping others as a registered nurse, bringing her gentle heart, strength, and dedication to every patient and person she served.
Above all, Linda cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, a proud and loving mother, and a grandmother whose greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love filled her home with laughter, support, and lasting memories.
She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Moffitt; her children, Brandon Payne (Emily) of Conway, South Carolina, and Amber Johnson (Kenny) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; and her grandchildren, Brianna Settle, Preston Payne, Taylor Payne, Juliana Payne, Gavin Johnson, and Tori Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings, JD Hughes (Ethelene) of Benson, North Carolina, Jean Nicolaus (Jim) of Prospect, Kentucky, Robert Hughes (Jackie) of Ayden, North Carolina, and George Hughes of Dunn, North Carolina, along with many extended family members, nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were touched by her caring spirit.
Linda’s life was a reflection of love, compassion, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
