Librada (Libby) Acosta Petris

Librada (Libby) Acosta Petris was born in El Tigre, Sonora, Mexico on November 7, 1929 and passed away on February 16, 2026 at the age of 96. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 and made her home in El Centro, California for the rest of her life. Libby worked for many years at Jayvees, Town Shops, and Roberts Department Store before spending two decades in the Southwest High School cafeteria, finally retiring in 2021 at the age of 91.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Jose R. Petris, her daughter Sandra Petris De Lira, and her grandson Jose M. Petris Jr. She is survived by her son Jose M. Petris (Sylvia), her daughter Sarah G. Petris, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Libby’s long and industrious life reflected her quiet strength, dedication to her family, and enduring connection to the community she called home for more than seven decades.
