Lexie Melhorn

Lexie Melhorn, beloved pet of Terry and Christina Melhorn, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on March 13, 2026.

Born in Texas, Lexie was three years old when she came to the Melhorn family as a Valentine’s Day gift in 2018. After being surrendered to a kill shelter in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, she was rescued by a kind woman dedicated to saving small dogs and transported to Illinois, where Terry and Christina welcomed her into their home.

From the beginning, Lexie was a devoted momma’s girl who also held great affection for her dad. She quickly formed a close bond with her brother Marley, taking charge of all the toys while he happily went along. Together they spent joyful hours chasing squirrels in the yard. After losing Marley to lymphoma in January 2023, the family brought home Heidi in June of that year. Heidi adored her big sister and remained faithfully by her side.

Lexie faced significant health challenges in her later years, including a diagnosis of Cushing’s disease in August 2023. Through dedicated care and monitoring, she achieved stability and even tested negative for the condition in June 2025. In July 2025 she began treatment for an enlarged heart, the battle she ultimately could not win. Despite the many obstacles in her eleven years, Lexie remained a fighter until the end. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kimberly Talley and the staff at Central Hospital for Animals for the compassionate care they provided their sweet girl, whom Dr. Talley lovingly called a “Fragile Flower.”

Lexie brought immense love and joy to her family. Their home will never be the same without her. She leaves behind her devoted parents, Terry and Christina, and her loving sister, Heidi.
