Lewis Henry Hines Jr.

Lewis Henry Hines Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on December 5, 1952, in Portland, Tennessee, he spent many years as a skilled mechanic for Peterbilt. Known to his coworkers as “Jr,” Lewis was admired for both his mechanical expertise and his big heart, always showing compassion and generosity toward those around him.

He cherished time with family, finding deep joy in holiday gatherings and everyday moments spent with loved ones. Lewis held a profound love for the outdoors, particularly the waters of Old Hickory Lake, where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He also took great pleasure in bird hunting with his brother-in-law, tending his garden, and planting trees, tulips, and buttercups that brightened the world around him.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Lenne Ann Smith (Warren), Reba Handshoe (Sammy), and Danna Avery (Ken); his nieces, Chastity Harrison (Kevin), Haley Abbott (Jacob), Brittney Eddy (Jesse), and Ashley Gregory Tuggle; his nephews, Joseph Handshoe (Ryan), Keith Handshoe (Tiffany), and Adrian Gregory (Megan); and his sister-in-law, Teresa Hines Flynn (William Bullard Flynn). He also held his cousins close to his heart.

Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Henry Hines Sr.; his mother, Lennie G. (Hall) Hines; his brother, Kenneth Hines; and his sister, Betty (Hines) Gregory.
