He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Love and Myrtle Love; his wife Judy Kay Harbin Hooper; and his brother Tony Hooper. He is survived by: his daughters, Shelley Hooper Burgess and Jennifer Hooper Bertorelli (Gino); his grandchildren, Darien Bess (Kylie), James Burgess and Zana Huckabee (Austin); his great grandchildren, Lincoln Bess, Lucas Bess and Baby Huckabee; and his siblings, Kenny Hooper (Marie), Carolyn Hamrick (Ray) and Sherry Carpenter (Johnny). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation (2916 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054). A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Gaston Memorial Park (1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054).
