Leslie June Truly, 54, of McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on January 26, 1972, in McAlester to Carol Manning, Leslie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology from East Central University in Ada. She devoted more than 25 years to the legal field, working as a paralegal and private investigator in Colorado, Tulsa, and finally at the Jeff Belote law office in McAlester. In addition to her professional work, she taught paralegal and litigation studies for 14 years at the McAlester Kiamichi Technology Center, where she guided and inspired countless students.
Leslie married the love of her life, James Allen “Jay” Truly, on February 18, 1995, in Bugtussle, Oklahoma. Together they built a life centered on family and hard work. She found quiet joy in time spent with her dogs, watching Ghost Adventures, and exploring her fascination with haunted castles, historic homes, and mysterious places. Above all, she was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother who cherished every moment with those she loved.
She is survived by her parents, Carol Painter and Jimmy of Tannehill; her sons, James “Nick” Truly and wife Traci of Durant, Justin “Jay” McLemore and wife Stacy of Hartshorne, and Jared McLemore of McAlester; her grandchildren, Ty, Skye, and Riley McLemore; her sisters, Rebecca Cope of Norman, Lena Ashworth and husband Trey of Oklahoma City, and Jaidi Painter and fiancé Bryson Hale of McAlester; her nephews Joesef and Andrew Cope of Norman; her niece Madison Nester and husband Josh of Colorado Springs; and special friends Amy Martin and Jeff Belote, along with many other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen “Jay” Truly, and her maternal grandparents, Bette Ardrey and Elmer Manning.
Leslie will be remembered for her resilience, strength, dedication, love, and unwavering loyalty to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
