January 22, 1966— March 6, 2026
Liberty, TX
Leroy Brooks Jr., 60, of Liberty, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 6, 2026. Born on January 22, 1966, in Liberty to Leroy Brooks Sr. and Avery Faye Brooks, he grew up with deep roots in family and community. Baptized at Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church, he attended San Jacinto Elementary before his family moved to Baytown, Texas.
A standout athlete at Robert E. Lee High School, Leroy graduated with the class of 1984 and earned recognition as an offensive running back on the 1983 All-District First Team. Known for his lightning-fast cuts, blazing speed, and remarkable performances on the field, he remained humble throughout, always crediting his teammates. After high school, he pursued a career in auto mechanics, working at Baytown Nissan Service Center and spending more than 25 years with the Zachry Group. He took great pride in rebuilding his cherished 1974 Chevy Nova and was a lifelong, diehard Dallas Cowboys fan who remained loyal to the team through every season.
Above all, Leroy cherished his family. To his mother, he was her “little baby boy,” a spirited and mischievous child who grew into a man with a warm, teasing sense of humor. To his father, he was a reflection of strength and determination, someone who lived life boldly on his own terms. At family gatherings, he served as the beloved “Chief Supervisor,” offering lighthearted commentary while others barbecued and worked, filling the yard with laughter and making even ordinary moments feel special.
Leroy is survived by his loving parents, Leroy Sr. and Avery Faye Brooks; his daughter, Allegra Brooks; his bonus son, Marcus James; his brother, Dexter Brooks; his niece, Mallorie Brooks; his godchildren, Myah Diaz and Loghan Brooks; and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earnest and Ellen Brooks Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Jeffery and Luella Durham; his aunt, Minnie Rhodes; and his uncles, Theodore Brooks, Robert Brooks Sr., Earnest Brooks Jr., Bill Ray Brooks, and Harold Brooks Sr.
