Leonard Jackson ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory Oxon Hill on Mar. 13, 2026.On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Leonard Roy Jackson passed away peacefully. God saw that the road was getting rough and the hills hard to climb. He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac Jackson Sr. and Pearl Corley Jackson and one brother Isaac Jackson Jr. Leonard, affectionately known as "Jack," youngest of the late Isaac Jackson Sr. and Pearl Corley Jackson, was born on December 31, 1956, in Washington, D.C. Leonard accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Southwest D.C. He later attended King Emmanuel Baptist Church, under the leadership of his Brother-in-law the late Reverend Daryl F. Bell. Leonard graduated from Western High School in 1974 and later went on to attend the University of the District of Columbia. He worked for the GSA and then went on to become a bus operator with WMATA in 1979. He received several safety driving awards. On January 2013 Leonard retired after 33 years. As a son to his parents, he was always dedicated to them. He made sure they were well taken care of. After his father's passing in 2007 he and his sister, Carolyn, took the task of taking care of their mother until her passing in 2021. He met the love of his life, Roberta Smart, while working at WMATA. The couple was married at Friendship Baptist Church on November 22, 1986. Through this union, he gained a daughter Yarmeka Smart. As husband and wife, Leonard and Roberta were always together; see one and you will the other. During his final years he required constant medical attention. His favorite saying to the doctors was "let me go home, my wife knows what to do." As a father to Meka along with his niece Kineta they did everything together, playing basketball, going to the playground, and watching cartoons every Saturday. He gained a son-in-law in 2006 and then came the grandchildren Robert Jr. in 2010 and Corinne in 2011 and he became Pop-pop. To keep them from crying when we left, he would send them upstairs with loose change to put in their banks. Cori caught on, telling her brother "Boy they are tricking us so they leave." They would call asking him to have some food delivered because they were hungry. Baby Brother to his big sisters Irene, Ernestine, Carolyn and brother Daniel, he was spoiled by them. Uncle to Sherri and Steve, growing up together they were reminded by him that they were supposed to call him uncle and not Leonard. The baby nieces Katrina and Kineta. Kineta was always around with Meka being mischief, but they can do no wrong, getting in the mud, starting a fire and locking everyone out of the house. The great-grand nephews Julian and Jackson made him feel young. His in-laws and friends in GA and FL would roll out the red carpet when he came to town. Some of them really believed he was Italian. Hosting Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends for 38 years was the joy of his life. He would go all out cooking their favorite food. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Roberta Jackson, daughter Yarmeka Johnson (Robert Johnson) of North Wales, Pennsylvania, two grandchildren Robert Johnson Jr. and Cori Johnson also of North Wales, Pennsylvania. His sisters Irene Ford, Ernestine Rotan of Temple Hills, Maryland and Carolyn Jackson Bell of Washington, D.C. One brother Daniel Jackson of Temple Hills, Maryland and one brother-in-law Abraham West (Mary) of Miami, Florida. Three uncles Eugene, Leon (Mary Francis), and Alvin Corley (Vannetta) all of Columbia, South Carolina. Host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put his arms around you and whispered, "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. The Wife forever Love YouRelatives and friends are invited to gather for Leonard's Life Celebration on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 10 A.M. until the start of the service at 11 A.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill MD 20745.
