Leonard L. Proffitt passed away on March 14, 2026. A man of deep faith and quiet strength, he was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Long Hollow Road, where he was surrounded by genuine love and compassion. He served his country in the United States Army and later worked as a machinist at the Oak Ridge Y-12 and K-25 Plants. He also owned and operated Proffitt’s Machining.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Edith Chumley Proffitt; his parents, Clayton and Mattie McNeely Proffitt; his grandson, Scott Denton; his great-granddaughter, Jessica Rae Denton; his brother, Jimmy Proffitt; and his sister, Mary Sue Huffaker.
Leonard is survived by his son, Jeffery Kent Proffitt and wife Angie; his daughter, Penny Lynn Proffitt; grandchildren Ashley, Tasha, Andrew, Tyler, Kellie, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Lane, Trevor, Chance, Paige, David, Gabe, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews. His life was richly blessed by the many friends and family members who held him dear.
