Bagley, MN

Leonard Barrington Jakeman, 90, of Bagley, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Renville Health Service Nursing Home.

Born on November 29, 1935, in Petersburg, Nebraska, to Henry and Alice (Gill) Jakeman, Leonard moved with his family to Bagley in 1939. He grew up farming alongside his father, graduated from Bagley High School in 1953, and later served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1963. In 1969, he married Carol Honey, the love of his life, and together they raised her children, Debbie, Gordy, Tammy, and David.

Over the years, Leonard worked in many roles that reflected his strong work ethic and varied interests. He served as a police officer in Bagley from 1968 to 1973, drove truck for several employers—including transporting feeder pigs from the Olivia area to southern Minnesota for the Dick Benson family—and briefly owned and operated a restaurant. He also lent his help to farmers in southern Minnesota throughout his life.

Leonard is survived by his children, Gordon (Cathie) Larson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tammy (Michael) Radloff of Hector, Minnesota; his sister-in-law Marlene Wardell of Fort Myers, Florida; and Mimi Rangitsch of Oakdale, Minnesota, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dick and Jim, sister Norma, sister-in-law Arlene Jakeman, brother-in-law Robert Leuchtenmacher, and children Deb Larson and David Larson.
