She began her life in Birmingham, Michigan, residing there until her mother moved back to Northern Michigan when she was in elementary school. Leona was raised in Leland, graduating from Leland Public School and then she went on to pursue a degree in nursing at the Hackley Hospital School of Nursing in Muskegon, Michigan. She worked in several hospitals and while working met and married Donald Spedoski, bringing her to the family farm, Stanwood Farms in Stanwood, Michigan. Leona left to pursue her next career as a mother and was a professional homemaker raising her three children on the family farm. She returned to nursing to support her family after the death of her husband, working as a nurse in skilled nursing homes in Big Rapids and Cedar Springs areas as a Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance. After all those years working, Leona retired and pursued her passion of crafting, sewing, knitting, and quilting.Leona is survived by her three children, Marks, Dorothy (Jim), and Martha (Joe); her grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew), Travis, Dalton (Kayla), Dustin, Drake (Morgan), Dylan (Julia), and Dakota; her great grandchildren, Skylar, Noah, Nova, James, Hailey, Alyssa, Riley, Mason, Jaxson, Carson, Dalton, Johnathan, and Elizabeth; sister-in-law Marian, and sister-in-law Marianne. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, mother Fern, siblings Dan, Annette (Ed), Lorraine (Jack), mother & father in-law, Marks & Bridget, in-laws Dorothy, Jack, Marguerite (Jack), Noreen (Bud), and Mark.Leona will be forever missed by her family but remain warm at heart by the many hats, mittens, sweaters, and quilts that she has provided over the years.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Big Rapids, with Father Jegar Fickel as celebrant. Leona's family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. After lunch the family will proceed with interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
