Lena King ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kedz Funeral Home - Toms River on Mar. 15, 2026.Lena Kristine King, 74, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, surrounded by her three beloved children.Born Lena Johansen in Brooklyn, New York, on November 7, 1951, to Hjalmar and Anna Johansen, Lena later moved to New Jersey where she met the love of her life, Douglas W. King, through a mutual friend. They married on June 19, 1976, and together built a warm and loving home, raising three children: Laurie, Douglas J., and Lindsey.Lena dedicated herself to her family above all else. Her role as a mother was her greatest joy and priority-she always put her children's needs first, offering endless support, love, and care. A talented seamstress, she created beautiful things with her hands and took pride in her skills. Over the years, she held various jobs, including as a waitress, and head medical secretary at Fort Dix, where her kindness and efficiency shone through.She had a spirited love for life, always ready to try new things. Lena especially enjoyed getting out in her car, driving around town, soaking in the simple pleasures of the day. Her personality was the perfect blend: the epitome of kind and compassionate, with an unexpected silliness that brought laughter and lightness to those around her. That playful spark, that genuine warmth, made her unforgettable.Lena was predeceased by her father, Hjalmar Johansen; her mother, Anna Johansen; and her devoted husband, Douglas W. King.She is survived by her sister, Ruth Johansen; her brother, Fredrick Johansen, and his wife, Robin Johansen; her daughter, Laurie Welch, and her husband, Christopher Welch; her son, Douglas J. King; her daughter, Lindsey Sullivan, and her husband, Michael Sullivan; and her three precious grandchildren: Genevieve Welch, Sebastian Welch, and Chase Sullivan. Her grandbabies were a source of immense pride and joy.A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753. Burial will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.Lena was the heart of our family-her love, warmth, and playful spirit will live on in every memory we share.
