Leila Cason Burnett

Mrs. Leila Cason Burnett, of Cherry Lake, Florida, passed away on March 7, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on June 11, 1932, in Vienna, Dooly County, Georgia, to James W. Cason and Essie Mae Register Cason, Leila graduated from high school before earning an associate’s degree in science and beginning her career as a nurse.

A longtime member of Cherry Lake Baptist Church and its oldest member at the time of her passing, Leila found deep joy in her faith, particularly through Sunday School and church gatherings. She was known for her warm hospitality and skill in the kitchen, often contributing several dishes to community events. She cherished time with family and friends, found pleasure in tending her yard, reading her beloved Reader’s Digest magazines, and was occasionally spotted walking atop her roof with characteristic independence.

Leila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doil Burnett; a son, Timothy Doil Burnett; and three brothers, George Cason, Henry “Sonny” Cason, and an infant brother. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Tyson (Tommy) of Lakeland, Florida; her son, Craig James Burnett (Autumn) of Cherry Lake, Florida; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Norris of Greenville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
