Lawrence William "Larry" Fisher

Lawrence William "Larry" Fisher

February 25, 1946 March 14, 2026

Victor, NY

Lawrence William Fisher, known to all as Larry, was born on February 25, 1946, in Washington, DC, to Almon Preston Fisher and Dorothy Haag Fisher. The oldest of five children, he grew up on the west side of Rochester, New York, where his natural curiosity and scientific bent often led to memorable experiments with things that go boom. Active in Scouting under the guidance of his Scoutmaster father, Larry cherished every chance to explore the outdoors, frequently biking with his brothers and close friend Michael DeMarco to the rural community of Fishers, New York.

In 1966, Larry met the love of his life, Carole Taylor, at Bristol Mountain just days before departing for Air Force basic training in Colorado. Their long-distance relationship, sustained through letters and calls during his service—including more than a year in Iran—grew into a deep bond of friendship and abiding love. They married on June 19, 1969, the day before Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Using the GI Bill, Larry earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked at General Railway Signal before joining Kodak, where he remained until his retirement in 2006.

Larry and Carole made their home in Fishers, less than a quarter mile from the Fisher Homestead established in 1817, fulfilling his longtime dream of raising their children, Brian and Lisa, amid the wonders of nature. He spent his free time gardening, running, and long-distance biking, and by 1994 had climbed all 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks with friends and family. Whether trekking through the woods, biking across the Finger Lakes, Cuba, Iowa, or Nova Scotia, hiking the Grand Canyon five times, or quietly watching birds in his backyard, Larry found his greatest peace in the natural world.

A quiet and humble man, Larry gave generously of himself through decades of volunteer service. He served with the Fishers Volunteer Fire Department as treasurer, followed his father as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 60 in Victor, and was a founding member of Victor Hiking Trails, where he helped build and maintain local trails while leading community hikes. He also contributed many years to the Town of Victor Conservation Board, the Boughton Park Commission, and the Victor Park and Recreation Advisory Committee. At home, his mischievous curiosity and love of science found joyful expression through clever tinkering, a collection of high-voltage gadgets that produced impressive sparks and laughter, and an enthusiastic pursuit of music, from alternative rock to jazz, which he shared with Carole through lively living-room dance parties.

Larry passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2026. He is survived by his wife Carole, his children Brian (Jason Scott) and Lisa (Paul Henderson), his grandson Kyle, his siblings Almon (Nancy), George (Pat, deceased), Vicki (Harry Long), and Kim (Tim Witte), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His gentle spirit, wide-eyed wonder, and steadfast kindness will remain with all who knew and loved him.
