Lawrence Thomas Caudill

August 22, 1953 March 9, 2026

Morehead, KY

Lawrence Thomas Caudill, 72, of Cranston Road in Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at his home on March 9, 2026. Born in Rowan County on August 22, 1953, he was the beloved son of the late Greenberry and Carrie Plank Caudill.

Lawrence cherished time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching sports and Westerns, following the stock market, ginsenging, and cutting tobacco—an activity in which he won several trophies and prizes for his speed. A former employee of Morehead State University and a lifelong tobacco grower, he founded Caudill Metal Buyers in 1994 in the same barn on his parents’ farm. He grew the business into a success while continuing to operate from that humble beginning and living in the house his grandfather Jack built in the 1940s. Known for his big heart, Lawrence was always ready to help others. He held deep appreciation for his customers and buyers, whom he considered his second family, and often said he was nothing without them.

He is survived by his children, Tina Renee McWain (Bennie Jackson) of Hillsboro, Timothy Lawrence Caudill (Jill) of Morehead, Emily Marie Caudill and Lawrence Junior “L. J.” Caudill, both at home, and Joshua Peyton Back of Rowan County; his companion, Amanda Rooks of Morehead; his siblings, Jaydee Caudill (Sandy) of Hillsboro, Lorene Messer (Keith) of Morehead, Woodford “Woody” Ray Caudill of Morehead, Leashie Christine Stidam of Vanceburg, Brenda Jo Middleton (Jackie) of Hillsboro, and Jackie Green Caudill of Morehead; his grandchildren, Brandon Lawrence Caudill, Justin Lee McWain, Tyler Ray Caudill, Rayanna Grace McWain, and Ethan Lane Caudill; special cousins Dandell Thomas Caudill and Samuel “Sammy” Cecil Caudill; six nieces; and seven nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, an infant child, brother-in-law Monty Wayne Stidam, sister-in-law Janet Yates Caudill, grandparents Benjamin Cecil and Clara Belle Shields Caudill and Jack Edward and Maude Gulley Plank, and uncles James Luther Caudill and Clyde Plank. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
