Lawrence Shivener, 83, of Blue Creek, passed away on March 13, 2026, at SOMC Hospice Inpatient in Portsmouth. Born on February 15, 1943, in Lynx, he was the son of the late Gladys Shivener Wilson.
A hardworking farmer, Lawrence took great pride in the land and the life it provided. He served his community faithfully as a Jefferson Township Trustee for 38 years, a role he deeply loved. He also enjoyed working on cars, often tinkering in the garage to keep things running smoothly. Lawrence found satisfaction in vegetable gardening, growing and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. In quieter moments, he relaxed with a good western or kept up with current events while watching Fox News. Above all, he cherished the simple pleasures of life, his work, and the community he was proud to serve.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Carmelita Miranda Shivener; children, Tina (Danny) Liston and David (Briana) Shivener; grandchildren, Kristi (Brandon) Rockey, Ashlee (Chris) Moore, Dereck (Shelby) Shivener, and Dalton (Jessie) Shivener; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Harper, and Dallas Shivener, Jovee and Kasen Moore, and Zander Rockey; brothers- and sisters-in-law, George and Gayla Miranda and Betty Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Moncie Shivener; sister, Sue Evans; and brother, Jimmy Wilson.
