July 13, 1939— March 13, 2026
Gretna, LA
Lawrence “Nunny” Joseph Sinatra, age 86, of Gretna, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born and raised in Algiers, he remained a lifelong resident of Gretna, where he built a life centered on family, faith, and service to others.
Nunny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Georgette O’Dwyer Sinatra; his children, Chris Sinatra (Shelly), Gregory Sinatra (Stacy), Rebecca Sinatra Smith (Shane), and Lawrence M. Sinatra (Mary); and his sister, Phyllis Sinatra Hebert. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and loyal customers who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Leonard Sinatra and Josephine Falcone Sinatra; his sister, Frances Sinatra Tingstrom (Sidney); his granddaughter, Sophia Catherine Sinatra; and his stepson, Marc Matherne.
After a short active-duty stint in the U.S. Naval Reserves, Nunny attended barber school and enjoyed a long career as a respected barber. He owned and operated VIP and Sinatra’s Barbershops before working at Chuck & Gordon’s, Dale’s, and most recently Ricouard’s, earning a reputation as the oldest living barber on the Westbank while continuing to work until the day he passed. He took genuine pride in his craft and in the relationships he formed, offering customers not only a haircut but conversation, sports talk, laughter, and a warm handshake. Nunny was an active member of the Italian American, Lucky 13, and Quarterback Clubs for many years. He loved LSU sports, especially baseball, as well as Saints football, golf, hunting, fishing, and blackjack, yet his greatest joy was watching his sons and grandsons play baseball. A longtime usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gretna, he was a devoted Catholic who loved Jesus deeply, and his family finds comfort knowing he is now with the Lord.
