Lawrence Edward Agan, 85, of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away on March 8, 2026, at Beehive Assisted Living. Born on February 4, 1941, in Chillicothe, Missouri, to Margaret Esther Agan and Edward Carson Agan, Larry spent an idyllic early childhood riding his bike and pulling his dog Togo in a wagon. At age ten, his family moved to Dallas, where he transitioned from a one-room schoolhouse to Highland Park Junior High and quickly formed lasting friendships. He thrived outside the classroom, taking on odd jobs, mowing lawns, working at the A&P, and most of all playing guitar and singing with his band throughout high school.

After five years at the University of Texas, where his band was the top act on campus, Larry joined the Army and trained in Military Intelligence. He began his professional career in sales and rose quickly, becoming Sales Marketing Manager at Western Publishing, makers of Little Golden Books, despite the position normally requiring a master’s degree. He spent ten years with Gibson Greeting Cards before meeting his wife, Brenda, at church. They married just nine weeks after their first meeting. Two years later, their daughter Cara Margaret was born, and the couple purchased their first rental property, launching a lifelong pursuit of real estate investment.

Larry later worked for Hallmark Cards, where he was named Salesman of the Year in 1977 and promoted to Product Marketing Manager at the home office. The family settled in Wichita, Kansas, a place they loved for raising their daughters. Their real estate holdings grew to include two shopping centers and numerous rental homes, eventually becoming a full-time endeavor for both Larry and Brenda. Their second daughter, Emily Anne, completed the family. Larry’s personal passions included stamp collecting, managing investments, and above all, his music. He recorded four CDs and two 45s and served as the Singin’ DJ in Mesquite for fifteen years. He also quietly helped many people with their personal finances over the years.

Above all, Larry was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend who made connections easily and genuinely loved people. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Agan of Mesquite, Nevada; daughters Cara Thome and Emily Porter of San Diego, California; grandchildren Ellis Thome, Celia Thome, Weston Porter, and Lyla Porter; and his sister Marilyn Chapman of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Lee and his parents, Margaret and Ed Agan.
