LaVonne Meyn, 96, of Sheldon, formerly of Boyden passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden with Pastor Brian Schafer, officiating.
Burial will be at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.
Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church, Remodel Fund.
LaVonne Meyn
LaVonne was born March 26, 1929, in Boyden, the daughter of Nell (Kwikkel) and Nic Rouwenhorst. She attended school in Boyden, graduating in 1946. She then attended the Sioux Valley School of Nursing in Sioux Falls and graduated in 1949. After graduation she worked at Sheldon Hospital.
She married Kenneth Meyn of Boyden on December 30, 1950, in Petersburg, VA where Ken was
stationed in the Army. After he returned home in 1952, they lived on the Meyn Family Farm west of Boyden. They farmed many years and moved to Boyden in 1986. They enjoyed many winters in Texas and summers at the lake home in Spirit Lake.
LaVonne enjoyed life on the farm. She especially liked cooking, baking and sharing her fresh buns and cinnamon rolls. She loved spending time with the family and playing games with her grandchildren.
LaVonne was an active member of her church. She was an organist for many years, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, participated in Bible Study and was an active member of UPW.
LaVonne is survived by 3 sons: Craig (wife Hanan) of San Antonio, TX; Je (wife Cheri) of Boyden; Kent (wife Glenda) of Ames; and Gina Salerno of Lincoln, NE. Eleven grandkids: Maggie (Joseph) Newbold of Milwaukee, WI; Andrew (Lisa) Meyn of Pace, FL; Abigail (Jason) Beck of Littleton, CO; Joseph (Valerie) Meyn of Sacramento, CA; Carissa (Levi) Judge of Rock Valley; Dusty (Traci) Meyn of Manson; Maria (Nathan) Schafer of Rock Valley; Austin (Katelynn) Meyn of Ankeny; Ashley (Andy) Smith of West Des Moines; Joshua (Christi) Meyn of Ankeny; Megan (Colin) Newell of Ankeny and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, sister Joy Van Velzen, sister and brother-in-law Delores and Cli Vander Wilt, and her parents.
