LaVerne Spradley Hewitt, 84, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 surrounded by her children and loved ones while under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Wayne County native lived in Jesup most of her life and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and spent ample time in the Word, always quick to bring up an encouraging bible verse. Known as "Sweetie" by her family, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook, often showing her love through Seven Up cakes and chocolate delight. She enjoyed music of all kinds and expressed it by playing the piano, a skill she knew by ear. LaVerne loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite days were when they came to visit or had sweet, long talks over the phone. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Roy Hewitt Sr.; father, Ryan "Ron" Spradley; mother, Lottie Manning Spradley; sisters, Laura Nell Warner, Lou Alice Taylor, and Bonnie Kay Spradley.Survivors are her daughter, Vickie (Robert) Hendrix; son, Roy (Monica) Hewitt Jr.; sister, Wanda (George) Moody; four grandchildren, Jake (Ellen) Hendrix, Hannah Hewitt (Don) Wilkerson, Mallory Hewitt (Robert) Cline, and Zoe Hewitt (Troy) Crow; six great grandchildren, Rylan, Jameson, Clayton, Sadie, Mabry and Jubal; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 3 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Rinehart Chapel with Rev. Randy Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tony Hewitt, Jake Hendrix, Rylan Hendrix, Don Wilkerson, Troy Crow and Jay Hill.Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
