LaVerne "Willis" Dobson

LaVerne Dobson, 94, of Barnwell, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2026. Born on February 26, 1932, in Big Thicket, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Hamp Willis and Abbie Burrell Willis. She was married to Guy R. Dobson for 65 years.

A devoted mother, LaVerne always made time for her family and cherished her church family at Calvary Baptist Church, where she served with particular joy during Vacation Bible School. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and South Carolina Women’s Basketball fan. For many years she was a talented golfer who won the Women’s Club Championship at Sweetwater Country Club.

She is survived by her children, Randy (Sherry) Dobson, Paul (Verna) Dobson, and Abby (Jim) Sherrer; her grandson, Nick (Caroline Moore) Dobson; and her great-grandson, Colby Riggs Dobson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
